INTERIOR DESIGN:

Design on a dime...it doesn't have to cost a bundle.
Although I would typically source beautiful furnishings from lets say, designer showrooms, antique shops, and have pieces custom upholstered, this time I welcomed the challenge of designing a space on a shoe string budget; while still having it look as though it wasn't!

I'd like to share with you a recent renovation of a clients spare room which was utilized for storage of miscellaneous items. The space was transformed into a reading den. The only request the client had was that the room be painted in a lavender hue she selected. Follow me on a step by step overview of how the project came together.

In keeping with the clients personal aesthetic and her being not one for overly feminine decor, I decided to let the color be the catalyst of things to come and juxtapose the traditionally feminine color with a bit more masculine aesthetics.

Not typical, I started with the purchasing of accessories; complementary light and dark rich silk throw pillows and a luxurious faux fur throw set the stage (all TJ Max). To anchor the space a contemporary patterned area rug was selected. That purchase really helped the design project begin to take shape along with a brushed metal black topped faux stone side table and faceted glass table lamp (all Home Goods). The color grey in the rug complementing the various purple hues would become the chosen colorway for the seating arrangement. An oversized high back dark grey velvet reading chair (TJ Max) and stripped charcoal grey settee (Amazon) with variegating stripes of different purple hues pulled together the room. A small X-leg studded dark charcoal leather ottoman (Overstock) was added for both additional table top space or extra seating. A crystal clock, carafe and tumbler along with silver gallery tray (Amazon) and silver sequin throw pillow and Mercury glass vase (TJ Max) was selected to complete the reading den along with various vases of the owners displayed in the bookcase.
